Signal from noise
Part of the Ius Soli documentary archive, Signal from Noise is performance and a series of collaborative sound art pieces with composers. Signal from Noise (2020), created with French sound artist Phil St. George, is based on my lo-fi field recordings. Lavami col fuoco (2023), composed by Rumoremuto, uses sound recordings of lava stones that i persoanlly rubbed.
Signal from Noise reflects the challenge of transforming noise into signal, capturing the process of constructing documentary imagery and the literal manipulation of objects extracted from reality, as the objects themselves become noise-makers.
Developed in collaboration with Antonio Marano, Signal from Noise – Suoli/Suoni emerged in 2023, exploring the relationship between sound and ground. In this piece, fragments and artefacts from Ius Soli are placed under a microphone, amplifying their sounds as they are manipulated, creating an instant sound-based rewriting.

In 2022, Signal from Noise was presented as a sound installation at Museo Madre in Naples, within Alessia Siniscalchi’s performance Oreste Will Be Back. This installation involved recordings, live microphone feed, video, lava stones, and lapilli, generating soundscapes through tactile interactions.
